What makes a Silver Bengal so special
Silver is not actually a colour – it is the absence of colour. How to recognise a high-quality Silver Bengal and why good silver lines are so rare.
In the Silver Bengal, the so-called inhibitor gene suppresses the warm yellow and red tones in the coat. The golden-brown background of a Brown Bengal becomes a silvery-white background on which the black rosettes stand out with particular clarity and contrast.
The inhibitor gene is inherited dominantly: a silver kitten needs at least one parent that is silver itself. Silver can also be combined with the snow colours – this creates, for example, the Silver Mink with its aqua eyes.
✔ a clear, cool background without a yellowish sheen (so-called “tarnishing”)
✔ deep black, sharply defined rosettes with strong contrast
✔ fine glitter that gives the coat a metallic shimmer
In temperament the Silver Bengal is no different from other Bengals: active, intelligent, playful and very people-oriented.
High-quality silver lines are rare in Europe. We are all the more proud of our silver queens: Bella-Ruby and Melissa-Smara from the renowned Italian cattery Bengalsbest, Penelope (Silver Mink), Saphira and Jadia. They are joined by our young silver male Rokri Soul Imperator of BengalCatJewels, born on 25 December 2025 – our future king.
